About Andrew Sky

Andrew Sky describes his music as “Indie rock with catchy melodies and powerful hip-hop beats, mixed with a bit of soul to create an eardrum-popping opiate for your ears.”  He combines aspects of rock, hip-hop, and soul to create a unique sound.
Sky is currently working on his debut CD while releasing a new song each week on his YouTube channel.  His first original single titled “Original” was released Sept. 28th, 2010 as an introduction to the channel.
At James Madison University in Virginia, Sky combined his artistic and practical interests in the music industry by majoring in Business with course concentrations in songwriting.  After graduation, Sky focused on composing and developing contacts within the music industry.  He has obtained valuable feedback over the years from other established songwriters and music industry professionals.  Recently, Sky has used YouTube to share his music and is excited to explore diverse musical genres with input from his fan base.
Sky’s first exposure to music performance was on the piano.  That interest was short-lived and was soon replaced by the alto saxophone, on which he trained and performed for twelve years.  As his love of music grew, so did his creative drive, and Sky began singing/songwriting; soon deciding to turn his musical passion into a profession.  After finding an audience in Virginia and California, Andrew Sky decided to release singles through YouTube, giving him access to more listeners.  Not only does he enjoy making music, he films and edits many of his own videos, creating a complete product.   Although based in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Sky is currently in Los Angeles, promoting his music.
Sky has been influenced by a diverse range of artists from different genres, including The Cure, Nas, Foo Fighters, Incubus, Jamiroquai, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Roots, and many more.  Sky listens to music of all genres stating that, “The only way to grow as a songwriter is to stay current, listen to as much music as possible, and strive for new creative bounds.”  This diversity of musical taste is how Sky brings such a unique sound to his music and songwriting.
Sky will continue to release videos on his YouTube channel, AndrewSkyMusic, while completing his first CD.  East Coast tour dates will be posted online.  In addition to his independent releases, Sky anticipates writing for major artists, television, and movies.
